Diabetes

What it is: Diabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels are too high because the body does not make enough insulin or does not use insulin properly.

Common symptoms: Increased thirst, frequent urination, increased hunger, fatigue, blurry vision, and slow-healing wounds.

Risk factors: Family history, overweight or obesity, physical inactivity, age, and certain health conditions.

Management: Healthy eating, regular physical activity, monitoring blood sugar, and taking medications or insulin as prescribed.

High Blood Pressure

What it is: High blood pressure, or hypertension, occurs when the force of blood against the artery walls remains consistently too high.

Common symptoms: High blood pressure often has no symptoms, which is why regular blood pressure checks are important.

Risk factors: Family history, high-sodium diet, physical inactivity, overweight or obesity, smoking, stress, and increasing age.

Management: Eating a balanced diet, limiting sodium, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and taking blood pressure medication as prescribed.
